SIN CITY BOUNTY
On the 12th, the ladies and I streamed live interviews from Plush the Nightclub's party, Glitter and Glamour. We tried recording via facebook but the music pumping from the club obscured the recording so we relied on the Ustream recording. We thought we had shut down the Facebook live stream but to our astonishment, we had not. These are the screen shots of our discovery. This won the night!!

I was a bit crafty this month creating a Book of Shadows leaf for the website WitchIt Good

I also designed a logo for Inner Circle Sanctuary with help from my BFF, Poetrysue.

My social media offering for St. Valentine's Day
February 15
I discovered a storytelling podcast many, many years ago called "The Vinyl Cafe" - Stuart McLean was directly responsible in fostering my need to move to Canada... long before a certain politician rose to power. Stuart passed away on Feb 15th and I feel as though I've lost a friend. My favorite stories are “Dave Cooks the Turkey” and "The neighbours who renovated" but my absolute favorites were when Stuart would wax on about the history and beauty of the various cities and towns he visited when The Vinyl Cafe was on the road. Listen to as many as you can. Maybe I can get you to move to Canada with me.

I learned a wonderful new word

nepenthe

(noun) Originated from Ancient Greece, nepenthe is described as something, which can make you forget your heartache, grief or suffering. (via wordsnquotes)
and I realized I have a lot of things in my life that I can classify as nepenthe

Jasper Driver
A new gorgeous friend, Jasper, had this in his timeline

"Always keep your friends close and your enemies closer because now you've got a human shield of your enemies."

During the Feb 12 live stream broadcast, the ladies and I interviewed a few people and Jasper was one of them. I had been prepared by Toxi prior to meeting him and indeed was quite intrigued. He was described as gregarious and delightful albeit a tad provocative. When I actually shook hands with him, I found him charming and beautiful, an Adonis to take the breath away. His social media is a delight to follow. @jasper_driver

Broken Heart CC BY 2.0 by David GoehringBroken Heart CC BY 2.0 by David Goehring
My heart was broken this month. Someone whom I loved dearly, instead of bringing an issue they had to me, chose a different way to handle it. I was crushed that this was the path they had chosen. Even moreso since the ensuing chaos has defamed another person I love and cherish. I have asked myself many times over the course of these past few days, what, if anything, could I have done to engender more trust by this individual. When I have an issue with something someone said or did, I go to the source, always to the source. I thought this was known protocol... or rather, I would have hoped that this was the protocol I have tried to instill in those around me. After days of ruminating, I realize it wasn't something I did or could have done. It was a knee-jerk reaction on their part. I am disappointed.

Because of the chaotic aftermath of the above story, I thought I would offer up a sounding board if anyone had any questions about some of the heinous social media posts that they had been seeing. I offered up the simple,
"Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have."

After an innumerate amount of private messages, and several public questions that made me pull out my dusty tarot cards, I finally had to close the thread but I have to say, it was a fun Saturday.

I'll have to do it again soon.

Sean Spicer Press Conference (Melissa McCarthy) - Saturday Night Live video
February 4
"It took a few insults delivered in a trademark shriek to hammer home that this really was Melissa McCarthy, in drag, capturing the unquestionable essence of a political figure whose public image so far has largely revolved around belligerence, alternative facts, and cinnamon gum. As soon as the assembled audience figured it out, they began cheering, causing McCarthy’s Spicer to berate them once again. “Settle down, SETTLE DOWN!,” she screeched. “Before we begin, I know that myself and the press have gotten off to a rocky start. And when I say rocky, I mean Rocky the movie because I came out here to punch you. In the face. And also I don’t talk so good.” ~quoted from The Atlantic

Spongy, Friends, Fatness & Photos

When your weekend starts like this, it's gonna be a good time.
Road trip with the ladies - Erma Zurita
The ladies and I were heading out on a short road trip and decided to selfie it just in case we were all lost at once (abducted by aliens, etc). Love these ladies! During the trip we had several conversations, including one about pig bungholes being spongy...

Current convo: balls and bungholes #spongy

Refering to a podcast I had heard from This American Life
Transcript and download available

In my 'On This Day' popped up an article about taking photos when you're fat and how a lot of people who are indeed fat, avoid photos often.

Many years ago, I was quite camera shy because of my weight. That changed. With photos we document our own history; our lives, our loves, our passions, our dreams. I always take several photos now and find the one I like the best. I hope to get selfies with every friend I have and will ever have. :-)

From the article: "Our vanity is no longer enough of a reason to avoid the camera. Life doesn’t wait until you “get thin” enough to capture it. Life is happening... it is happening right now and the only moment we are guaranteed is the one we are living."  Click here to read the article from the Huffington Post in full.
I'm totally zen about it now and plan on getting a selfie with every. single. one. of. my . friends.

A Memorial For Lou Ocampo

Hi Everyone,

As many of you might know, we lost Lou Ocampo on Thursday, August 21st. Lou was the host of the 7 Leaves Radio Show and Bruce Garrett’s fiancé. She will be greatly missed. Instead of paying for 2 services (one here in Las Vegas and one in California) the family has decided to have a service and mass in California, alone.

This Saturday, August 30 from 4pm-6pm, Bruce, along with Lou’s children will have a small memorial get-together for all of her Las Vegas friends and family. It will be at Bar Kada Avenue; A Filipino Ethnic and Fusion Gourmet Food & Bar Restaurant located at 2605 S Decatur Blvd #120, Las Vegas, NV 89102. Celeste, from Bar Kada, was generous enough to donate space for the event. There will be food and drinks for purchase and some entertainment, as well. Please come down and let’s remember Lou for the wonderful and kind person she was.

Saturday Aug 30 4pm-6pm

Bar Kada Avenue
S Decatur Blvd #120
Las Vegas, NV 89102

In lieu of flowers, the family could still use help with donations to subsidize funerary and transportation costs. Every $5 & $10 dollars helps.

Bruce has set up accounts at Wells Fargo:

It is with the deepest of sorrows that I say goodbye to a most pleasant and kind soul. Lou M. Ocampo shared her love of mankind in her real life and on the radio as host of the 7 Leaves radio show. My thoughts are with Bruce Garrett, her family and friends who I know share in this great sadness. She will be greatly missed.

October 29, 1957 - August 22, 2014

Saturday August 30, 12pm noon will be Lou M. Ocampo's viewing and at 2pm will be the service. ACBS 2457 North Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89108

I took this photo of Lou during her show on July 17, 2014. She had a great show.

I didn't get to see my mom on Thursday because she had the rarity of 3 days off in a row so decided to go on a little vacation. They went out to stateline but returned home without staying over because they had gambled much more than they expected to.

When I saw them Saturday, it was just supposed to be a quick swing-by to pick up a package and to give Brian the details on who requested his info from my Facebook post but moms decided to cook for me.... um..... YAY! Anytime she wants to cook for me makes me so very happy.

As I was talking with Brian about upcoming small job prospects, my mom interjected...

Picture
Mom: Who are these people, Ohma?
Me: Just people I know on Facebook, mom.
Mom: Any of them ladies?
Me: Yes, as a matter of fact.
Mom: What do they want?
So I explained to her about what happened when Brian came over and she said:
Mom: So, none of them want my man?
Me: Uh... no, mom, your man will be fine.
Mom: They better not or I kick all you friends' ass, okay Ohma?
Me: Okay, mom.
LOL!

Sunday 05/18/14 Addition

Me: I better go, mom. I have laundry to finish.

Mom: You should do your laundry on Friday when you get home from work. Then on Saturday clean house, do you shopping, get thing done. Then on Sunday, you can relax and just let everything hang. But, I know you always busy, Ohma... You have too many friend. I have no friend. I get a lot of shit done.

On Friday, I had dinner with Robin at Sushi Yamaguchi. I had my very favorite... Unagi in a box.

The Geek Lounge ends it's two year show at www.VegasAllNetRadio.com to start podcasting from the Sci-Fi Center. I was the first guest the guys had so they invited me to be on the very last show. It was great fun! They plan on offering a lot more than jyst a weekly podcast so stay tuned to their website for upcoming changes! I plan on being on some of those podcasts so I'll let you know when to listen in for sure! Their website is www.Geekata.com

Then I went over to The Fremont Street Experience Neonopolis where the Songkran Las Vegas festival was being held.  Here is some basic info:

"Songkran is for many Nations. Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, Sri Lanka, Yunnan and more.

Deriving from the Sanskrit language, the word Songkran means to pass or to move into. In this context, the meaning implies the passing and the moving of the sun, the moon and the other planets into one of the zodiacal orbits. The Grand Songkran Festival which falls in Aries indicates the new era of the Thai New Year.

Thai people will find time to perform their annual rites of showing respect to their ancestors. Thais pay respect to their elders by sprinkling their hands with scented water.

The most famous aspect of the Songkran celebrations is the throwing of water. The custom originates from spring cleaning aspect of Songkran. Part of the ritual was the cleaning of images of Buddha. Using the 'blessed' water that cleaned the images to soak other people is seen as a way of paying respect and bring good fortune.
